We are saddened to share the passing of Rainer Milton, a respected colleague, devoted advocate, and cherished member of The Arc of San Diego community. Rainer passed away on March 4, leaving behind a legacy defined by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities.
Rainer was born in Bakersfield, California, and raised in Oakland before moving to San Diego in 1998 to attend San Diego State University. Soon after completing her studies, she found her calling in service to others.
Rainer joined The Arc of San Diego in 2002 as a Case Manager I. Her work ethic, empathy, and natural ability to connect with others led to her promotion to Case Manager II in 2004. Over the years, Rainer continued to grow as a leader and advocate, ultimately serving as the Program Administrator for both the Sulpizio Family Center and North Shores Vocational Center.
Throughout her career with The Arc of San Diego that spanned over 20 years, Rainer distinguished herself as a champion of person-centered services. She was passionate about creating environments where clients felt supported, encouraged, and empowered to pursue their goals. Whether guiding someone through a new challenge or celebrating their achievements, Rainer approached every interaction with kindness, patience, and genuine care. Her work touched countless lives and strengthened our mission in immeasurable ways.
Those who had the privilege of working with her witnessed her extraordinary ability to make every individual feel valued, respected, and capable. Her influence will continue to be felt in the programs she led, the teams she supported, and the many lives she helped shape.
As we mourn her loss, we also honor the remarkable person she was and her commitment to making the world a better, more inclusive place.
The Arc of San Diego will hold a Celebration of Life in honor of Rainer on March 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Sulpizio Family Center, located at 3030 Market Street, San Diego, CA 92102.
We extend our deepest condolences to Rainer’s family, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by her life. Her impact will continue to be felt throughout our work, within our community, and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
