Bill at Camp-A-Lot

Help Bill be seen for what he CAN do!

This summer, The Arc of San Diego's Camp-A-Lot/Camp-A-Little will once again become a place of incredible opportunities and experiences for children and adults of all abilities, including Bill Scudero. A camper for over ten years, every summer Bill can't wait to enjoy hikes, sing-a-longs, camp fires, new and old friends and the opportunity to be seen not for what he can't do but for what he CAN do.

Born with Spina Bifida, Bill utilizes a wheelchair to access resources in the community.
A life-long camper, Bill is now 39 years old and has attended a variety of weekend and week day programs every summer since high school. However, it wasn't until he discovered The Arc's traditional, overnight residential camp that he truly felt independent and at home.Bill and Camp Counselor

"Even when I went to other camps I was excluded from doing things because I wasn't able to get my chair to certain areas or activities. I had to stay in one place all the time. Camp-A-Lot is different. It is the only place I have ever been able to swim!" - Bill

Unfortunately, many families are unable to provide their loved ones the opportunity to experience all that an overnight summer camp has to offer. A few years ago,
all funding for programs like Camp-A-Lot and
Camp-A-Little was cut by the State of California.

Debbie Scudero, Bill's mother, immediately recognized the difference a fully accessible, traditional, overnight camp experience made in her son's life. As a single mother supporting a son with a disability and vital medical needs, Debbie understands the difficulties facing many families with children who want the opportunity to share in the same summer magic as their peers

Will you help us ensure Bill and his fellow campers are seen for what they CAN do?
