Cherrie Sevick Lifetime Service Award Presented to Dwight Stratton

Dwight Stratton, a Vista resident, received the Cherrie Sevick Lifetime Achievement Award from The Arc of San Diego, one of the county’s largest non-profits serving people with disabilities, at their Annual Meeting in June 2024. He was recognized for his remarkable commitment to supporting The Arc of San Diego’s mission to support and empower individuals with disabilities to achieve their life goals.

Stratton has been a dedicated volunteer and loyal supporter of The Arc of San Diego since 1990. He joined The Arc of San Diego Board of Directors in 1997 and currently serves as Secretary. Stratton and his wife Kathy have a daughter with cerebral palsy who benefitted from The Arc of San Diego’s services. Her success in life encouraged Stratton to continue his involvement with The Arc of San Diego. Stratton previously served as board president of The Arc of California. Anthony J. DeSalis, Esq., President & CEO of The Arc of San Diego said, “The Arc of San Diego is grateful for Stratton’s 34 years of service to our organization. He exemplifies the spirit of Cherrie Sevick and The Arc of San Diego is proud to recognize his outstanding dedication with the Cherrie Sevick Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Cherrie Sevick was a remarkable leader who helped found The Arc of San Diego. She was the first executive director. From the 1940s until her death at the age of 93 in 2009, Cherrie tirelessly advocated for children and adults with disabilities. She was inspirational, compassionate and helped The Arc of San Diego grow from a grassroots organization into one of the county’s largest nonprofits.
