Celebrating Our Wonderful Volunteers
Each April, we have the opportunity to celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month and highlight the profound impact our volunteers have on our organization.
In 2023, more than 130 volunteers donated nearly 4,300 hours of service to our organization. The Arc of San Diego provides life-changing services to over 2,000 people with disabilities in San Diego County each year, which would not be possible without the constant support of dedicated volunteers from our community. We are so thankful to our volunteers for generously donating their time and talents to help us live our mission of supporting and empowering individuals with disabilities.
Amy's Volunteer Story
We are honored to have Amy Strommer's infectious smile and warm demeanor grace the front desk at our administrative offices. She began volunteering at The Arc of San Diego in January of 2023 with an exceptional passion for serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. While Amy has a professional background in speech and language pathology, her work is personal, as her daughter has had cognitive differences since birth. Amy's professional background has been helpful in finding resources for her daughter. Not all families and caregivers of individuals with disabilities have Amy's background and experience.
"I wanted to find an organization where I could utilize my educational background and real-world experience of parenting an individual with special needs… It is so important to support organizations like The Arc that help people find their community. Everyone has value, and everyone wants to be valued," explained Amy.
Every day Amy is at The Arc of San Diego, she is not merely answering phones; she is able to connect families with programs and resources that can have an immense impact on their lives. Her love and dedication for the families that are a part of our programs are palpable with each interaction she has at the front desk. Amy suggests to those interested in contributing to the lives of people with disabilities to volunteer at one of The Arc's events where "you will have the opportunity meet the amazing staff and individuals who benefit from programs at The Arc of San Diego."
As Amy continues to radiate warmth and compassion at our administrative offices, her unwavering dedication reminds us that every story and act of kindness has the power to transform lives and uplift entire communities. We are so thankful for you, Amy!
