The Arc of San Diego received the 2021 Business Diversity Award from the City of San Diego’s Human Relations Commission. The Human Relations Commission's annual awards seek to recognize individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions to peace, social justice, and human and civil rights in San Diego. The Business Diversity Award recognizes a business or corporation for its focus on diversity and inclusion in its organizational philosophy, as demonstrated through its corporate leadership, employment policies, corporate giving, and/or community initiatives.

Our award notification from the Human Relations Commission said: "It is the mission of the Human Relations Commission to protect basic human and civil, promote activities that foster mutual respect, understanding and dignity, and create an atmosphere of amicable relations among all members of the San Diego community. We see that the work you and your staff are doing with The Arc of San Diego to support and empower people with disabilities to achieve their goals demonstrates a commitment and dedication to similar goals.”

Nominations were accepted from the public in November 2021, and recipients were selected by the Commission in December 2021. The Arc of San Diego and other award winners were honored at a ceremony and reception in May 2022 in downtown San Diego.
