THE  SULPIZIO FAMILY ARC CENTER OF SAN DIEGO CELEBRATES
DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTH

Residents encouraged to attend free event on Fri, March 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The Arc of San Diego, a local not-for-profit and one of the region’s largest human-service agencies, commemorates March’s Disability Awareness Month by hosting open houses at each of their centers throughout San Diego County. On Friday, March 7, The Sulpizio Family Arc Center of San Diego at 3035 G Street in San Diego will open its doors to the community from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Fri, March 7, 2008. To highlight the spirit of this month and the special events, the theme Ready, Willing and Able prevails.

The Sulpizio Family Arc Center of San Diego serves the people with disabilities in the communities of southeastern San Diego, central San Diego and National City. The center’s doors will be open to learn more about its community job sites and day programs.

The Arc of San Diego is the largest, most comprehensive provider of services to people with disabilities and was founded in 1951 by parents concerned about the lack of services for children with developmental disabilities. It has since grown to seven major centers, thirteen group homes, and one respite house. Arc directly impacts the lives of more than 2,500 people with disabilities throughout San Diego County.

Nationally, the month of March is also recognized as Mental Retardation Awareness Month; however, The Arc of San Diego refers to it locally as Disability Awareness Month, an equivalent term in the industry.

For more information on the open house, programs or to schedule a tour, please contact Melanie McCoy at (619) 233-8855 or by email mmccoy@arc-sd.com.
