MAYOR SANDERS PAYS A SPECIAL VISIT TO THE ARC OF SAN DIEGO SAN DIEGO, CALIF – Maria Castillo has been a consumer at The Arc of San Diego for over 20 years. The Arc of San Diego serves more than 2,500 children and adults with disabilities throughout San Diego County annually. Earlier this year, Ms. Castillo wrote a letter to Mayor Jerry Sanders. On June 15 at 9:30 a.m., Mayor Sanders paid her a special visit and toured The Arc of San Diego at her request and invitation.
Over the years, Ms. Castillo has written and received responses from each of the last three presidents. One of the executives at Arc calls her “their political dynamo.” Arc has a scrapbook with all of her political accomplishments including a letter from President Bill Clinton and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. “Maria is an inspiration,” says C.E. Skip Covell, President/CEO, The Arc of San Diego. “She accomplishes what others that don’t have a disability would never try. The fact that she has written proactively so many elected officials and received response over the years is nothing but tremendous and a testament to her drive and spirit. We know Mayor Sanders’ visit will be a special one.” # # #
