COME HELP THE ARC OF SAN DIEGO

THIS SUMMER BY BECOMING A CAMP COUNSELOR

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – Every summer, The Arc of San Diego puts together their Camp-A-Lot & Camp-A-Little programs. These are traditional summer “live-in” resident camps designed for children and adults with developmental disabilities that are held in San Diego County. This year’s camp will be held at Cuyamaca Outdoor School and Camp Denver Fox.

The camps offer everything from hiking to campfire programs to dances and talent shows, but they can’t operate without volunteers. The Arc of San Diego is currently looking for camp counselors for their camps this summer. This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who has ever thought about volunteering or becoming a camp counselor. There is no experience necessary and offers real “hands-on” experience. Room and board are also provided while at camp. They have current openings for camp counselors (must by at least 18 years old) and counselor aides (must be at least 15 years old).

The Arc of San Diego is one of San Diego’s largest human-service agencies.  Founded in 1951 by a determined group of people who felt they had to “do something” for children with mental retardation, Arc now serves more than 2,500 children and adults with disabilities throughout San Diego County.

If anyone is looking to do something different this summer, volunteering at Camp-A-Lot & Camp-A-Little is the perfect choice. The camp programs go all summer, July 11 through August 20.  However, volunteers don’t necessarily need to work the entire summer; one and two week commitments are also available.

Honorariums are given to volunteers who work hard and provide a safe, comfortable & fun environment for their assigned campers.  Prior to training & orientation, there is an application process that includes an interview, background check, and fingerprinting.

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2006 summer camp season. For more information or to set up an interview, please call (619)685-1175 ext. 255 or e-mail pals@arc-sd.com.
