The Arc of San Diego Receives CVS Caremark Community Grant

San Diego, CA:  The Arc of San Diego received a CVS Caremark Community Grant for $1,500. This funding will benefit Arc’s  Camp-A-Little program, a summer resident camp for children and teens with developmental disabilities. This donation is part of the CVS Caremark Community Grants commitment to non-profit organizations throughout the country.

Camp-A-Little is one of 15 programs The Arc of San Diego offers throughout the region. Camp-A-Little serves approximately 75 children each summer, who participate in a traditional camp program that includes hiking, sports, campfire sing-a-longs, talent shows, picnics, crafts, and swimming.  All activities at camp are modified so that everyone can participate despite any limitations they may be facing.  Doing this creates opportunities that encourage campers to try new activities and be more adventurous.

Support from CVS will allow Arc to establish a scholarship fund for campers who are unable to pay the full cost of camp. Scholarships benefit campers who have no other funding sources available and those who are experiencing economic hardship.

“CVS Caremark Community Grants are an effective way for us to contribute to the success of communities where we do business,” said Jennifer Veilleux, Director of CVS Caremark Corporation.   “We are proud to support the work that The Arc of San Diego does in the community.”

Grants were awarded to organizations that share a common vision with CVS Caremark’s All Kids Can™ program, which strives to make life easier for children with disabilities. The goal of the program is to create more inclusive environments for children with and without disabilities to build self-esteem, lasting friendships and social skills, and to help children without disabilities learn diversity and tolerance.

"CVS Caremark is committed to helping children with disabilities learn, play and succeed in life," said Chris Bos, area vice president, Southern California, CVS/pharmacy. "Through this grant, we are proud to be able to help make an impact on the lives of children in the San Diego community."

“Organizations such as CVS Caremark allow The Arc of San Diego to continue providing quality programs to people with disabilities,” said Anne Hoffman, President and CEO of The Arc of San Diego. “We are thankful to CVS for this grant. Children in our camp program will greatly benefit.”
